Gastroenterology Consultants
Established in 1981, Gastroenterology Consultants is proud of its’
excellent physicians who are individually and collectively innovators.
Gastroenterology Consultants’ contributions to the health of Hampton
Roads community include:
• A leadership role in colon cancer prevention.
Recently our physicians were members of a national pilot study to
improve colonoscopy quality and polyp detection rates. This study
led to the development of a national registry to ensure the quality
of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
• An innovator in office endoscopy. Gastroenterology
Consultants established the first area office-based endoscopy unit
in 1986. The physicians and administrative staff consult with practices
across the country interested in providing this convenient and efficient
service to their patients. The Gastroenterology Consultants’ unit
earned AAAHC accreditation, and is one of the first units in Hampton
Roads to be awarded the prestigious American Society for Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy’s Recognition Award for providing GI endoscopic procedures
of the highest quality and patient safety.
• Service to the medical community. The physicians
of Gastroenterology Consultants are proud to serve the national
and local medical community in many pivotal leadership roles. These
positions have included many hospital committee chairs, President
of Medical Staff, Virginia Beach Medical Society President, national
advisory boards, chair of committees for the American Society for
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology,
Trustee of the American College of Gastroenterology, and editorial
board member for a leading gastroenterology journal.
Gastroenterology Consultants joined with Gastrointestinal and Liver
Specialists of Tidewater, PLLC in 1999. This collaborative gastroenterology
practice includes the expertise of over 30 Board Certified gastroenterologists
with offices in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, Williamsburg,
Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Smithfield. This talented group
of physicians with broad expertise, knowledge and interests is able
to offer state-of-the-art gastroenterology services of national
quality to all residents of our community.
